BAJ Gunung Agung Factory tapioca starch wastewater biogas extraction and utilization project, Lampung Province, Republic of Indonesia
Gunung Agung plant operates a tapioca factory with a production capacity 200 tonnes per day in Lampung, Indonesia. The starch factory produced a high organic content wastewater, which emits methane when treated in the anaerobic open lagoons prior to discharge waterways.
Under the project activity, an anaerobic digester treats wastewater which enable the capture of the generated methane. The captured methane then is combusted in a gas engine to produce electricity for on-site consumption. The project is located in Lampung, Indonesia.

The projects were registered in 2009 as Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
- Commercial operation
The Project has been in commercial operation since 2009. Currently, it is undergoing its renewal of crediting period.
- Issuance of carbon credits
Issuance of carbon credits for the second verification was granted successfully in November 2012. The project has achieved 37,842 tonnes of CO2 emission reductions so far.
