This is a long-tunnel diversion type hydropower station, consisting of a dam, diversion tunnel system, power housings and step-up substation. The project has a potential to export roughly 134,000 MWh of net electricity to the East China Power Grid annually.

In addition to the compliance of the Clean Development Mechanism, it has been externally audited as being compliant with World Commission on Dams (WCD) criteria for large hydro projects and granted an WCD approval from a Member State.

The project lies in the local administrative area of Pingnan County in Ningde City, Fujian Province of China. The project dam is located on the Daixi River, which is a tributary of the Tangkouxi River.

The project has been registered as a Clean Development Mechanism project under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2009.

  • Commercial operation

The project has commenced the major construction in May 2006 and has been in commercial operation since August 2008.

  • Compliance with World Commission on Dams standards

The project has been externally audited as being compliant with World Commission on Dam’s strict social and environmental standards, and received an WCD approval from a Member State.

  • Issuance of carbon credits

Three carbon credit issuances were successfully granted by the UNFCCC, with the first and last issuances approved in February 2011 and January 2013 respectively. It is certified that the project has contributed to 450,950 tonnes of CO2 emission reductions up to June 27, 2012.
